MARELD TROUBLE BOOSTER

The Trouble Booster is a germanium booster based on the legendary 1960s effect Dallas Rangemaster.
It is hand-painted and hand-built point-to-point at the kitchen table at home on Kungsholmen in Stockholm.

We use only premium components: N.O.S. germanium transistors, carbon composition and carbon film resistors — for a genuine 1960s fuzz tone.

The transistors in this pedal may vary depending on what we currently have in stock. However, we always use the best N.O.S. germanium transistors available at the time. Feel free to contact us if you have any specific requests.

Potentiometer from LESA or Alpha, and jacks from Neutrik.

MARELD recommends

The Dallas Rangemaster was not a pedal but a small box that sat on top of your amplifier, and was therefore always last in the signal chain. For example, if you had a fuzz before it, you would connect: guitar fuzz Rangemaster amplifier.

Today, guitarists often use many more pedals, and this type of circuit will sound different depending on where it’s placed in the chain. So don’t be afraid to experiment and find your favorite tone!

About the Trouble Booster

The Trouble Booster has a very simple layout: one volume control and a 3-position toggle switch. In the middle position, it’s an exact Dallas Rangemaster treble booster circuit.

To make it more versatile, we’ve added a switch that changes the value of the input capacitor — allowing you to choose between using it as a classic treble booster or as a pure volume booster with tons of output and a fuzzy character!

Additional details

The pedal is true bypass, meaning the circuit is completely bypassed when the effect is off, and your tone is unaffected.

Always unplug the instrument jack when you’re not using the pedal — this will make the battery last much longer.

By default, we’ve chosen not to install a 9V adapter jack, as we believe the pedal sounds best when powered by a battery. But of course, we can install one if desired for an additional cost.

The ideal choice is a simple 9V carbon-zinc battery (included).
